The Life of Max: April 2012

April has been a month of Easter holidays and getting a bit crafty! I've been checking out some teaching resources and craft blogs for some ideas to get Max to practise some skills he'll need for school and life. We've had lots of fun doing it so far and much more to come I hope!

Here is a picture of a couple of bits we've been doing.
I cut out snowflakes and Max played with those. I made some paper sensory-feely paper bundles. I made a couple of paper planes which were very good for engaging Max in some simple talking practise, repeating 'steady-go' and 'paper plane'. (Paper plane sounds mostly like 'pay pay pay' at the moment but we're working on it!) The last thing is the colour wonder in the middle, for which I cut out some random felt shapes and gave them to Max who placed them all in colour zones on the page. I thought it was gorgeous. :)

Here is the little beauty himself, smiling beautifully for me while on a walk in Shepherd Meadows this week.

This was a sensory play activity I tried and Max really enjoys. We dyed some rice red, green, blue and yellow, and put them into tubs. He just played at scrunching it in his hands and letting it fall then pushed around with his fingers before muddling the colours up to make multi-coloured rice tubs. All very fun and kept us busy for nearly half an hour solid - which is impressive for him and crafty things!

One of Max's favourite things to do in the sun at the moment is to be dragged around in his sledge. We didn't get to use it in the Winter when it snowed as it didn't get deep enough around here. I had a go...

...but Daddy was much faster and therefore more fun!

When he sees me with the camera in front of him he usually says 'cheese' and pulls a grin

Building a tower out of wood blocks. We've had lots of fun with those too. (See next blog post.)

Playing with his very favourite Toy Story figures. He likes to present Callum or me with one of the characters for us to pretend to be them and say a little catch-phrase and do an action. He laughs and laughs!
